Vanati Fortress, the main residence of the Eristavis of Ksani, is another major historical monument that now lies in the Russian-occupied territory of the Tskhinvali region, making it inaccessible. This was a large and important castle-hall, the political heart of the powerful Eristavi dynasty who ruled the Ksani valley for centuries.
