The Lopota River: A Valley of Beauty and Recreation

The Lopota River (მდინარე ლოპოტა) is a river in the Telavi Municipality of Kakheti, Georgia. It is a left tributary of the Alazani River, originating on the southern slopes of the Kakheti Caucasus Range. The Lopota is most famous for its stunningly beautiful gorge and for the Lopota Lake Resort & Spa, a major luxury tourist destination built around a series of man-made lakes fed by the river. This has transformed the Lopota valley into one of the premier recreational areas in Kakheti, blending pristine nature with high-end tourism.

The river flows from the high mountains through a deep, forested gorge before entering the Alazani Valley. The upper part of the gorge is a wild and untouched area, while the lower part has been developed into the resort. The combination of the beautiful natural setting—the clear river, lush forests, and the backdrop of the Caucasus mountains—and the well-developed resort infrastructure makes the Lopota valley a unique and highly sought-after destination.
