The Khumprieri River: A Glacial Torrent of Svaneti
The Khumprieri River (მდინარე ხუმპრერი) is a high-mountain river in the Mestia Municipality of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region. It is a powerful, glacial river originating from the southern slopes of the main ridge of the Greater Caucasus. The Khumprieri is a right tributary of the mighty Enguri River. Its valley is extremely remote, wild, and uninhabited, representing the pristine and untamed nature of Upper Svaneti. The river is fed by glaciers and snowmelt, resulting in a turbulent flow of cold, milky-white water, typical of glacial rivers.
