It originates on the southern slopes of the Lechkhumi Range and flows through a scenic valley before joining the Rioni River as a left tributary in the town of Ambrolauri. The Kheori is an important river for the Racha region, particularly for its famous wine-making micro-zones. The river valley is part of the heartland of Racha, a region renowned for its stunning mountain landscapes, unique cuisine, and some of Georgia’s most prized semi-sweet wines, including the legendary Khvanchkara. The Kheori flows through several villages and its clean, cold water is essential for the local agriculture and the unique terroir that produces these famous grapes.

The 11th-century Nikortsminda Cathedral, a masterpiece of Georgian architecture, is the main cultural landmark of the region and is easily visited from Ambrolauri.
