It originates on the slopes of the Caucasus main range and is a tributary of the Patsa River, which belongs to the Greater Liakhvi basin. This river flows through a wild, sparsely populated area defined by high peaks, deep gorges, and alpine meadows.

The Cheliatistsqali is a typical glacial and snow-fed river, with a powerful, turbulent flow, especially during the spring and summer melt season. Its valley is largely untouched by development, offering a glimpse into the pristine wilderness of the high Caucasus. Due to its remote location and the current political situation, the area is not accessible for general tourism, but it represents the kind of raw, powerful nature found in the highest reaches of Georgia’s mountains.
