About this activity

Hiking in Lagodekhi: A Guide to Ninoskhevi Waterfall

In the Lagodekhi Protected Areas, there is another, more impressive route that leads you to the Ninoskhevi Waterfall (the Great Waterfall). This trail is slightly longer and more difficult than the path to the Grouse Waterfall, but the final view is definitely worth the extra effort.

This guide will help you prepare for this interesting hike.

Trail Description: An Adventure in the Riverbed

This route also starts from the Lagodekhi Visitor Center, but heads in a different direction. The trail immediately enters a dense, relict forest and follows the beautiful gorge of the Ninoskhevi River. A large part of the path goes directly in or along the riverbed.

The main feature and challenge of this route is crossing the river several times. In the summer, the water level is low and crossing is not difficult, but your shoes will definitely get wet. The trail is well-marked and will lead you through the forest, among mossy boulders and centuries-old trees.

The Destination: The Great Ninoskhevi Waterfall

After covering about 4.5 kilometers, deep in the gorge, an impressive sight unfolds before you – the Great Ninoskhevi Waterfall. It is one of the tallest and most powerful waterfalls in Georgia, with a height of about 40 meters. The strong stream of water cascades down the cliffs with a roar, creating an amazing atmosphere.

Near the waterfall, the air is cool and moist, filled with water droplets. This is a great place to rest, recharge, and enjoy this natural spectacle.
