3-Day Adventure: The Hidden Mountains of Tusheti

Starting the Trip: Leaving Tbilisi

We will pick you up from your hotel in Tbilisi in a strong, comfortable 4×4 vehicle, fully prepared for the rugged and exciting mountain roads ahead.

Day 1: The Thrilling Road to Tusheti

We begin our journey by driving northeast toward the Kakheti region before climbing high up into the clouds.

• 🔹 Gombori Pass & Telavi: We drive over the scenic Gombori Pass (1,600 meters) and make our first stop in the charming town of Telavi. We will walk through the colorful local marketplace, where you can see fresh, local Georgian produce.
• 🔹 The Great Abano Pass: We drive through the deep Stori River Valley and begin our massive climb. We will cross the Torgva Bath Pass (also known as the Abano Pass). At 2,900 meters high, this is the highest drivable point in Georgia! The road is an exciting off-road adventure.
• 🔹 Alpine Views: From the top of the pass, you will witness unbelievable, endless views looking over both the Kakheti valleys and the hidden Tusheti region. You will see roaring waterfalls, green alpine meadows, and the snow-capped peaks of the Greater Caucasus.
• 🛏️ Overnight: We arrive safely in Omalo, the beautiful main village of Tusheti. You will have a warm dinner and sleep here for the night.

Day 2: Stone Castles & Europe’s Highest Village

Today we explore the magical, ancient villages hidden deep within two different mountain gorges.

• 🔹 Pirikita Gorge: We drive to Dartlo, a stunning historical village that looks like an open-air architectural museum with its old stone houses and defense towers. We will also visit the tiny, beautiful castle-villages of Dano, Kvavlo, and Chesho.
• 🔹 The White Castle: We stop in the village of Parsma to see the legendary “White Castle,” a famous historical site where the Georgian King Erekle II once sent important envoys to Russia.
• 🔹 Bochorna & Gometsari Valley: Next, we explore the Gometsari Valley. We will visit Bochorna, which sits at an incredible 2,350 meters above sea level—making it the highest permanently inhabited village in all of Europe! We will also see the amazing ancient three-story fortress-houses in the village of Dotchu.
• 🛏️ Overnight: We return to Omalo for the evening. For dinner, you will get to try authentic “Tushetian Khinkali”—a very special, delicious local meat dumpling. Sleep in Omalo.

Day 3: The Descent & Return to Tbilisi

We say goodbye to the high mountains and make our way back down into the warm valleys of the wine region before heading home.

• 🔹 The Descent: We drive back over the breathtaking mountain pass, giving you one last chance to take incredible photos of the wild Tusheti landscapes and waterfalls.
• 🔹 Flexible Winery Visit: Back in the Kakheti region, we can choose to stop at a local winery based on our group’s decision. It’s a great chance to taste traditional Georgian wines and relax after the rugged mountain roads.
• 🚗 Return: After a beautiful drive back across the countryside, we arrive in the capital city of Tbilisi in the evening.

Ending the Trip: Tour Concludes

We will drop you off safely at your designated location in Tbilisi. Your amazing 3-day adventure into the hidden mountains comes to a close, leaving you with breathtaking views and unforgettable memories of Georgia’s wildest region!
